Harvest celebrations - bringing the abundance of autumn to the table

Harvest festivals are among the traditional celebrations of autumn. In Germany, Erntedank is generally celebrated on the first Sunday in October. At the end of the harvest season, gratitude for nature's produce, sharing food and enjoying the diversity of seasonal ingredients take centre stage. Pumpkins, potatoes, apples, pears, grapes, cabbage, mushrooms, nuts and many other fruits and vegetables characterise this time of year and provide the ingredients for a varied autumn cuisine.

This abundance also makes the harvest season a celebration of the shared table. Large bowls filled with seasonal side dishes, long platters carrying roasts and poultry, bowls of fruit and salads and oven dishes filled with warming recipes create a generous table where food is served and shared.
