Asparagus in porcelain
A design for the asparagus season by Holst Porzellan/Germany
White asparagus is a very special and popular delicacy throughout Europe, and has become a symbol of regional specialities, particularly due to its cultivation in many asparagus-growing regions. Over the years, the price of fresh, field-grown asparagus has risen sharply, further enhancing its uniqueness and exclusivity.
Asparagus season is one of the most special seasonal highlights in the culinary calendar almost everywhere in the world.
Eating asparagus in restaurants has become a particularly expensive culinary experience and should therefore be served as a special treat. Fresh spears of asparagus deserve more than just a round plate; they really come into their own as a visual delight when served on oval, rectangular or oblong serving plates and platters.
Alina - the best-value asparagus platters of the season
With its ‘Alina’ porcelain plates, launched in 2025, Holst Porzellan has set a new price record.
A 30 cm serving plate for €9.90 + VAT and a 35 cm dinner plate for €12.90 + VAT (prices from 18 March 2026) as standard collection items - these are very reasonable prices for this professional quality.
Although they are in perfect condition – bearing only a sticker as a floor display label – the Alina asparagus trays have been heavily discounted once again and are likely to be among the cheapest asparagus trays of the 2026 season.
The flat serving platters measure 30 x 20 cm and are suitable for small to medium portions, whilst the 35 x 24 cm version is suitable for standard to large portions.
Alina Serving Bowl
To complement the Alina asparagus plates (see image above), we offer the Alina serving bowl in the same modern design. Ideal for serving potatoes as a side dish with asparagus, this porcelain bowl serves portions for two to three people. Its dimensions are L 23.0 x W 17.0 x H 9.5 cm and it has a capacity of 1.0 l to the lower rim. As you can see in the picture, however, the food can also be portioned much higher. This is what makes the Alina bowl so versatile, making it suitable for far more purposes than simply being a side dish bowl.

Ham boards for the perfect asparagus experience
A very popular combination for fresh asparagus is ham. White asparagus served with cooked or smoked ham. This is best served on very flat ham boards. This not only highlights this relatively simple side dish, but also makes it easier to slice and portion the ham. Above all, the ham should not come into contact with the asparagus sauces so as not to lose either its flavour or its appearance. Wooden and plastic boards do not meet hygiene standards at all and should not be used on tables and platters, particularly in professional catering.
Slate design & white asparagus
Here at Holst Porzellan, we tend to favour ‘white porcelain’, but when it comes to presenting asparagus , black tableware sets off the golden-yellow hues of white asparagus like no other.
A fascination with contrasts emerges.
Whether paired with white porcelain or presented as a complete asparagus dish with a slate-effect finish (see picture), the bowls and platters really enhance the visual appeal of the dish.
This hard ceramic with a slate finish is far more hygienic and durable than traditional natural slate; it is heat-resistant and, above all, easier to clean and store.
Unique: The asparagus draining sets
When prepared correctly, white asparagus should always be served ‘al dente’. Nothing is worse than spoiling the taste of this finest and most expensive of vegetables by serving it incorrectly!
White asparagus should be served ‘al dente’!
This can often be a bit of a problem, particularly when serving portions for two or more people, because when served fresh, the asparagus becomes soggy in its own juices and loses its texture and firmness.
We are one of the very few manufacturers worldwide to have addressed this issue, and as early as 2008 we developed a porcelain drainage grid that channels the asparagus juice onto a serving plate and/or serving tray placed underneath.
These combinations are perfect for serving asparagus at the table!
Our recommendation for serving asparagus spears
Asparagus dishes should never be served on a round plate, as this does not complement the elongated shape of the asparagus and creates a jarring visual effect. Even round plates measuring 33 cm or more disrupt the presentation of the dish, even if they are large enough to accommodate the whole spears.
Professionally plated asparagus is always served horizontally to the guest, and only oval, rectangular or oblong asparagus platters are suitable for this. Asparagus connoisseurs prefer their white asparagus to be al dente. We have developed special drainage grids for presenting cooked asparagus, which prevent the asparagus from becoming soggy or mushy and thus losing its flavour and firm texture. This drainage grid can be used with a range of oval platters and an asparagus serving bowl (for 4 to 6 people).
When serving ready-prepared asparagus dishes, the sauce of choice should be used sparingly and purely as a garnish, as it alters the natural flavour of the fresh asparagus too much. Guests should be allowed to decide for themselves where and how much hollandaise sauce, melted butter, honey-mustard sauce, white wine sauce, herb sauce or other sauce variations they wish to add to their asparagus.
That is why a good plate of asparagus should always be served with an asparagus sauce boat.
The large, modern asparagus platters
Innovative hosts who want to stand out from the crowd with their asparagus creations present their dishes on large, modern serving platters, a far cry from the traditional standard. Our coloured serving platters, measuring 36–38 cm and available in Coral Blue, Granito Grey and Wood designs, are perfect for this.

Asparagus sauce boats
No proper asparagus meal is complete without asparagus sauces. Among the most popular are hollandaise sauce, melted butter, mousseline sauce and the house speciality herb sauces. The most typical combinations of asparagus and sauce usually depend on the accompaniments served with the asparagus:
- Asparagus + hollandaise sauce + ham
- Asparagus + butter + new potatoes
- Asparagus + vinaigrette + egg
- Asparagus + Mousseline + Salmon
In this selection, we offer the perfect sauce boat for every type of asparagus sauce, ranging from individual-sized portions to large table sauce boats serving up to six people.
Asparagus soup bowls & dishes
An asparagus soup or cream of asparagus soup made from the asparagus stock is not only a culinary delight, but also an economical way to expand your menu. This allows you to make the most of everything used in the preparation and opens up a whole range of further possibilities. The most popular variations of asparagus soup are
- Asparagus soup with asparagus tips
- Asparagus soup with cooked ham
- Asparagus soup with Flädle (strips of pancake)
- Asparagus soup with a poached egg
- Asparagus soup with small dumplings
- Asparagus soup with diced meat sausage
- Asparagus soup with smoked salmon
We assume that both professional chefs and amateur cooks have a suitable selection of soup bowls to distinguish between different types of asparagus soup visually, or to distinguish a starter asparagus soup from an asparagus stew or a main-course asparagus soup, for example as a lunch dish. If not, here is a wide selection of soup bowls and soup plates.
