Scalloped plates & platters

Description

Feston plates and platters are flat porcelain items with a curved, arched rim. The term ‘feston’ comes from the French (feston) and refers to an arch, an arched garland or a curved decorative edge. In the design language of porcelain, the term festoon or festooned describes an edge that is not smooth and round, but gently wavy or curved, similar to a series of arches or waves joined together.

Festoon plates belong stylistically to classic or baroque-inspired tableware, in contrast to modern, clearly contoured flag plates with smooth edges. The production of a scalloped plate is considerably more complex and expensive than that of a round plate, especially since almost all scalloped plates also feature a relief. With this type of flatware production, the production moulds wear out about twice as fast as with smooth, round plates without patterns or reliefs. Features of a scalloped plate: - Curved, wavy edge
