Holst Porzellan is one of the few manufacturers to produce a genuine brown reactive effect glaze on genuine, extremely resistant hard porcelain. The name ‘Tierra’ stands for our earth and combines the earthy minerals of porcelain with the design and colour of this series. ‘Tierra’ not only stands for naturalness and grounding, it also forms the basis of all life forms from which we obtain our food. The colours of individual dishes blend together very differently on brown Tierra porcelain than on white porcelain. While white highlights and enhances the character of the individual components of a dish, on the brown of Tierra porcelain they blend together to form a natural overall picture. The green of a lettuce leaf, the yellow of a potato and even the red of meat juices appear more muted and subtle, blending together like an orchestra of flavours.

Reactive porcelain in earthy colours serves more to enhance the enjoyment of easy simplicity and grounds the dishes presented in a natural overall picture. White porcelain, on the other hand, emphasises the effect of the culinary arts and thus visually underscores the taste experience.

Tierra reactive porcelain gets its unique character from the special technique of applying and firing reactive Metallica pigments, which give the surfaces an exciting and three-dimensional appearance in a brown-black texture. Unlike many other ceramic tableware products, the reactive effect of our porcelain is achieved through ‘genuine reactive glazes’ and not just by applying a handful of isolated dots. With ‘Tierra’, we fire reactive glaze onto genuine hard porcelain. This not only gives us a unique design, but also makes the hard porcelain 100% suitable for commercial use in a ‘Modern Trend of Colours’.
