Description
In the language of professional hosts, the term "medium plate" refers to a plate size situated between the dessert plate and the main course plate. In the past, a middle course was traditionally served on the medium plate.
Today, the medium plate takes centre stage both in private households and in gastronomy. Many private homes use the medium plate for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Large slices of bread in particular require a medium plate, as the standard breakfast plate often does not provide enough surface. For dinner or lunch, the medium plate is ideal for small portions aimed at health-conscious consumers - simply eat a little less.
In buffet-style gastronomy, especially in self-service areas, the medium plate contributes to reducing food waste. Sadly, many guests still have eyes bigger than their stomachs when at the buffet. However, the discerning guest appreciates the medium plate, as food served on it is consumed more quickly and thus stays hotter.
