Bread plates for entrées and envelopes
In good restaurants and on sophisticatedly set tables, the bread plate forms the first sequence of dishes as part of the "envelope". Covered with a small butter knife, the bread plate serves as a time bridging until the first course is served. The bread plate usually has a diameter of 15 to 18 cm and differs significantly from the so-called breakfast plate. We at Holst Porzellan offer six different bread plates, 3 round bread plates with a small flag, an oval bread plate and a bread plate for wedding tables, the 25th and 50th wedding anniversary in the shape of a heart.
The term envelope comes from the table culture of the French nobility and refers to the objects pre-set on a table, including the decoration. The envelope is already available to the guest before he has taken a seat. A number of restaurants charge extra for the envelope, regardless of whether you have ordered it or not. For inexperienced guests, this often leads to resentment and misunderstandings.
