Line Mediterrano
Holst Porzellan is renowned for its expertise in white porcelain. This rigorous approach is occasionally enhanced by select items that are ideal for a tableware collection. One such item is the Mediterrano bowl, crafted from the distinctive southern reddish-brown ceramic with the traditional brick glaze.
In comparison to white porcelain bowls, brown ceramic bowls tend to exhibit reduced durability, resilience, and neutrality. It is true that ceramic bowls are fired at 980 °C, which is around 200 °C higher than ordinary stoneware. However, some restrictions must be observed when using them commercially. Southerners are familiar with these characteristics and advantages of ovenproof ceramics. Therefore, we ask all customers who are not yet experienced in handling ceramics to follow the instructions for use in the detailed information provided.
The special feature of ceramic tableware is its red-brown colour. This is due to the fact that Mediterranean dishes are often served in the same crockery in which they are prepared. Most dishes take on a reddish-brown colour at the edges when seared or baked. White porcelain makes the dish served look less attractive and gives many guests the impression of burnt food. The reddish-brown brick glaze plays over this perception with its natural appearance and forgives many incrustations that occur during food preparation. Mediterranean casseroles, such as cazuela, sarsuela, romesco and fideua, are particularly suited to the browned crusts that enhance their flavour.
